Facelift with beauty injections

You can now achieve the effect of a circular lift with the help of “beauty injections”. This was made possible thanks to the innovative drug Sculptra – a biostimulant based on the use of poly-L-lactic acid. Sculptra consists of a synthetic polymer Poly- L-lactic acid. PLLA has been used as a self-dissolving suture material since the 1960s. Sculptra was approved in 1999 in Europe for facial injections to restore volume and now it is available in more than 40 countries.

Skeptics will ask: how can polymer Poly- L-Lactic Acid tighten the skin? This complex polymer, getting into the deep layers of the skin, starts the process of producing collagen types 1 and 3. What is collagen? This is a substance that is responsible for the density and elasticity of our skin.
Sculptra works by increasing collagen production by your body restoring volume lost due to aging and improving skin appearance by rebuilding and reinforcing the structural foundation of your skin. Typically, 3 treatments are recommended for optimal results done every 6 to 8 weeks. Restored collagen provides volume and support to the aging face erasing age-related changes and creating a more youthful appearance with the effect of a non-surgical facelift. The results of the Sculptra procedures can last up to 2 years and sometimes longer.

The research has shown that the amount of collagen in the skin increases by 66.5 percent 3 months after the introduction of Sculptra preparation into the skin. The skin is noticeably tightened, deep folds and wrinkles disappear, and the lost volume is restored. With the help of Sculptra, the asymmetry of the face is also ideally corrected. The drug thus fully justifies its name! Gradual restoration of volumes can be an advantage for many patients who want to preserve their individuality in the process of external transformation.

It is important to have an understanding of how Sculptra works and that multiple treatments are needed for good long-lasting results. Patients’ education is paramount for them to have realistic expectations and as a result the highest level of patient satisfaction.

Areas for Sculptra Application

  • Lower jaw area
  • Cheeks
  • The area near the auricle, which often gives away age-related changes
  • Pre-jowl sulcus
  • Chin area along the border of the lower jaw
  • Temples
  • Mid-cheek furrow
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Lower jaw
  • Chin crease

Sculptra works by increasing collagen production by your body restoring volume lost due to aging and improving skin appearance.

The Sculptra is not recommended to be injected into the forehead, into the nose area, into the area of the eyelids and the corners of the eyes – “crow’s feet”, into the area above the upper lip. You cannot correct the “red border” of the lips. Traditional hyaluronic acid preparations and neurotoxins are more suitable for these sensitive areas.

It is important to realize that facial aging is not an isolated process that is limited to nasolabial folds or sagging skin but is a collection of general changes in the skeleton, soft tissues and skin structures. Therefore, complex rejuvenation is necessary, which involves not only the correction of nasolabial folds, but also the creation of a more youthful overall appearance. Sculptra is ideal for tightening the neck, décolleté, inner surfaces of the arms and legs, the abdomen, buttocks – the main areas of the body where the sagging of the skin structures is most pronounced.

Prevention of Jowling. Replenishment of lost collagen.

You can do maintenance Sculptra treatments to replenish of lost collagen to maintain your youthful appearance. On average, you lose 1% of collagen every year, doing just 1 vial of Sculptra 1 -2 times a year, can help you replace lost collagen and help you maintain youthfulness in a very natural way and without any  puffiness. Moreover, formed collagen tend to attach itself to muscles in the face and thus holds superficial fat pads in your face and prevent them from slipping down with time , and essentially prevents jowls formation. You can start Sculptra in your 30-s for prevention of jowls formation and to halt or minimize collagen loss from your skin. It is recommended to do 1-2 vial every 6 to 12 months 1 vial price is $800+hst; 2 vial price is $1400+hst

Questions & Answers

You will notice some improvement after just 3 weeks with gradual further improvement over the next 2 months.
The basic rule for introducing Sculptra is the “rule of decades”. In essence, the total number of facial enhancement vials required is equal to the number of decades the patient has lived. For example, a 32-year-old woman only needs 3 vials, while a 75-year-old patient will need approximately 7 vials to achieve noticeable results. But it is also important to take into account the anatomical features of the face and body, any tissue deficits, as well as the presence of concomitant diseases and bad habits. Ultimately, the specific amount of Sculptra needed can only be determined by your practitioner.
From time to time, the patient may need to inject 1-2 additional vials to look "perfect". The interval between repeated injections varies widely from several months to several years. When conducting a course of treatment, it is useful to adhere to the rule of three stages "correction – waiting period - evaluation". If the aesthetic practitioner is faced with the question of whether the patient needs an additional volume of Sculptra in addition to the planned number of vials, the client is invited to come for a re-evaluation in 3-4 months.
There are many methods that provide patient comfort during Sculptra injections including numbing with BLT anesthetic cream and injection of Lidocaine.
First, a course of injections is performed, which allows creating a voluminous "frame" of the face, and then the correction of areas requiring additional intervention, such as the piriform fossa, chin area hollows, lacrimal grooves, is carried out. If the patient wants to get a faster result, hyaluronic acid-based fillers with a short-term effect are first used, and after a few months they continue a complex correction with a poly-L-lactic acid preparation.
Sculptra facial correction can be combined with the introduction of neurotoxins such as Botox, Dysport, Nuceiva, Xeomin. Laser and phototherapy can be used immediately after the administration of poly-L-lactic acid. It is also possible to combine Sculptra with IPL (Pulsed Light Therapy) and fractional CO2 laser. In such cases, prior administration of poly-L-lactic acid provides a sufficient level of pain relief.
Sculptra medication is a fine powder that is reconstituted with sterile NS 0.9% and then injected under the skin to be then broken down by the body with a production of new own collagen in the process of breakdown over the course of several months. If Sculptra is not mixed properly (more concentrated and too thick) or injected too superficially it can potentially cause the formation of lumps of collagen which will be noticeable and undesirable. This improper technique used sometimes by some practitioners is avoided in the present time. What is more, a vigorous massage is performed immediately post Sculptra treatment and for a few following days.

Side effects

  • swelling, tenderness, redness, pain, bruising, bleeding, and itching at the injection sites
  • rarely formation of lumps. Including small lumps under the skin noticeable upon pressing on the skin. Larger lumps, including those with delayed onset with or without inflammation or skin discoloration, are reported as very rare complications.
  • Proper reconstitution and administration technique of Sculptra, as well as performing massage immediately post-treatment by the practitioner and thereafter by the patient at home for several days can minimize the formation of lumps.

We recommend 3 sessions every 6-8 weeks, with a minimum period of 3 weeks between treatments. Each treatment with a minimum of at least 2 vials for the face and neck. Results last up to 2 years.
