What Is Thread Lift

Thread lifting with PDO threads is a very popular and innovative technology, the purpose of which is the anti-aging correction of the skin of the face and body. Mastering this technique and its application in practice allows you to successfully cope with complex rejuvenation and correction face and body. The technique is based on three-dimensional (3D) modelling and is carried out using self-absorbable biodegradable threads embedded under the skin. For more information about tread lifting please visit our beauty spa clinic in Richmond Hill.

Thread lifting allows you to realize 2 important effects:

  • Reduction of the skin flap
  • Lifting of soft tissues

Any correction should start with improving the quality of the skin with mono threads.
Threadlift with barbed threads is the next step.

What Results Do We Expect from Thread lifting?

  • Lifting (moving soft tissues)
    • Midface Lift
    • Jawline and Neck Lift
    • Brow Lift
  • Reinforcement of tissues – i.e. creation of a dense collagen framework (due to the formation of new collagen around the threads)
  • The effect of prolonged bio revitalization (since there is a restructuring of tissue structures, which allows you to maintain the effect for up to 2.5 years). Attracting new collagen and water to the places where threads are placed.
    • Skin Rejuvenation
    • Skin and tissue tightening
    • Skin texture improvement
    • Diminishing scar and acne scar appearance and minimizing pore size
    • Reduction of cellulite appearance
  • Drainage
  • Lipolysis with insertion to hypodermis fatty tissues

Thread Lifting is a highly effective, minimally invasive, and safe alternative for lifting the skin.

Indications for Thread Lift

  • Face (eyelids, chin, puppet wrinkles, nasolabial folds, eyebrow wrinkles)
  • Neckline
  • Abdominal area – after a sharp weight loss, childbirth and for picking up hanging folds that form with insufficient muscle tone. Drainage from excessive accumulation of water in the PLC
  • Décolleté area
    • With rapid weight loss
    • After the end of the breastfeeding period
    • Due to age-related changes and general skin laxity
  • On the inside of the arms and shoulders – despite physical exertion and strengthening of the triceps, the muscles in these places are not worked out and the dermis sags
  • Buttock area – reinforcement tightens the skin, flabbiness disappears, healthy elasticity appears
  • Hips – as a result of a sharp weight loss, after liposuction and with muscle hypotonia – threadlifting allows you to “pick up” the sagging dermis from the inner and outer sides of the thighs
  • The area of the knees, elbows

Contraindications

  • Inflammatory elements at the sites of thread implantation
  • Tumor diseases at the sites of thread implantation
  • Tendency to form keloid scars, hypertrophic scars
  • Diseases of the blood
  • Exacerbation of chronic diseases
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • Individual intolerance

Thread Lift Aftercare

  • Limit active facial expressions for a week post-treatment
  • Refrain from facial massage for 2 months
  • Refrain from visiting the sauna, solarium for 14 days
  • Do not sunbathe for 14 days
  • Use SPF cream
  • For hematomas and bruising –apply arnica gel, trauma care cream, for 1st day only – ice it on (15mins) and off
  • Do not sleep with your face in the pillow for 7 days
  • Limit alcohol in the first days to avoid swelling
  • The rehabilitation period is about 2-3 weeks. The effect of the procedure is increasing with time (the threads straighten, then take on their original shape (shape memory effect). The full effect is manifested after 4-8 weeks.

Types of Threads

There are different types of PDO Threads that serve the best in different areas:

Smooth universal threads up to 90 mm long. Suitable for reinforcing almost any part of the face and body: chin, neck, cheeks, lips, temples, forehead, eyelids, abdomen, buttocks, and thighs.

  • Mono Eye Cannulas – very safe for under eyes, upper lids, between brows lines. Using cannulas in those areas minimizes the chances of bruising.

Threads-springs to create a lifting effect. These PDO threads stretch during installation, and then return to their original shape, tightening sagging fabrics.

  • Multi Screw – even more effective because several screw PDO threads are placed with each injection.

This type of PDO thread has notches and is considered one of the most effective for lifting tissues. It helps to improve the contour of the chin, neckline, chest, and abdomen.

  • Uni Cog
  • Bi Cog
  • Multi Cog
  • 6D Cog

In general, it is recommended to use 10 smooth threads for each cog thread to be used. It is important to build collagen and tighten the skin before doing the thread lift to achieve optimal results.

The Composition of Threads

  • PDO – polydioxanone
  • PLLA – poly-l-lactic acid
  • PCL – polycaprolactone

Currently, only PDO Threads are available at Eclat Spa.

PDO Threads

Polydioxanone is a synthetic self-absorbing surgical suture that was used in surgery in the 1980s. Absolutely safe and 100% biocompatible polymer, devoid of antigenic properties. Very light and does not weigh down the skin. In South Korea, PDO threads have been used in the cosmetic industry for many years with excellent results.

With threads implantation in the skin, there is an increase in growth factors (epidermal growth factor 300 times, FR of fibroblasts 350 times, insulin-like growth factor 400 times, growth factor of vascular endothelium 1000 times) which in its turn promotes collagen production and tissue rejuvenation.

The PDO thread in the body biodegrades to water and CO2 and after 180-240 days is completely absorbed by the body. A high rate of filament biodegradation is an important condition to eliminate the risk of dense fibrosis, as in the case of filaments of larger diameters and filaments with a long period of biodegradation (more than a year).

The result of the threads lasts up to 2.5 years.

  • Sealing and stretching of the skin
  • Reduction of the area of the skin flap
  • Mediated lifting effect

The clinical recovery period takes 5-7 days. However, at the tissue level, it lasts longer than 3 weeks. It is recommended to space any other invasive treatments 2-3 weeks before and after PDO Threads treatment.

Where PDO Threads Can Be Used in The Face and Body

Forehead and Eyebrow Area

PDO Threads can be used for the correction of ptosis of the forehead and eyebrows. The threads are arranged parallel to each other. The distance between the threads is 0.7 – 1 cm.

A typical sign of aging – depression in temple regions – requires the installation of PDO Threads using the technique of “mesh”.

Horizontal forehead wrinkles are corrected by inserting threads directly into the bottom of each wrinkle linearly. Correction of vertical inter-brow wrinkles and transverse wrinkles at the root of the nose, as well as increasing the frontonasal angle is performed by implanting PDO Threads at the border of the dermis and hypodermis in the projection of the wrinkle and across them (stiffening ribs).

Eye Area

Insertion of PDO Threads in this area requires confidence and accuracy. For tread lifting of the periorbital zone, the smallest eye-cannula threads are usually used. In the lateral part of the orbit, the PDO threads are inserted under each “goose foot” line. In the next stage, the threads are implanted, crossing with the previously introduced ones.

They can be installed vertically from the bottom up. In the lower eyelid area, PDO threads are usually implanted parallel to each other, with a distance of 2-3 mm. In case of significant disorders (lengthening of the lower eyelid, large excess of skin, network of wrinkles, and hernia of the lower eyelid), the effect should be increased by installing more threads and placing them at an angle to each other.

Treadlifting of the area around the eyes is not limited to the eyelids, when it is necessary to correct changes in nearby areas, such as cheeks and malar bags. This is one of the main rules of the method: do not limit yourself to one zone, work with adjusting areas, if appropriate. For example, the implantation of PDO Threads in the area from the cheekbones up and out, beyond the line of hair growth, will raise the outer corner of the eye.

Subdermal installation of threads in the projection of malar bags will reduce this, making them more compact and less noticeable. At the same time, we should not forget that deadlifting is one of the measures against the formation of edema of the entire periorbital area, as it helps to gently stimulate lymph flow and redistribution of fluid along the filamentous framework.

Lip Area

Aesthetic problems of the perioral and medial areas of the face remain the most difficult to treat even for plastic surgery, but thread lifting with smooth threads has made a real breakthrough in the treatment of those areas. Correction of vertical perioral (“purse”/”bar code”) wrinkles is done by introducing PDO threads perpendicular to them subcutaneously along the contour of the lips. PDO threads are arranged in a parallel manner, with an interval of about 3 mm.

Additionally, PDO threads can be used to create a magnificent contour of the lips.

The PDO Thread should be inserted strictly along the border of the skin and the red border of the lips. If desired, the procedure can be repeated in 3-4 weeks.

Excellent results can be achieved with a combination of PDO threads and filler techniques.

Restoration of Facial Contours

Thread lifting with smooth threads helps to make the oval of the face clearer, reduce ptosis of the cheeks, chin folds, and second chin.

PDO Threads are used to reinforce the skin in the lower third of the face. Installation in a hypodermis in places of the maximum tissue sagging parallel to a contour of a lower jaw or in the form of a grid.

Spiral (screw/multi crew) threads can be added for even better results.

Under Chin

In the submental region, PDO Threads can be inserted into the hypodermis from the chin. As a result, the skin thickens, and the second chin becomes more compact due to the lipolytic effect of PDO threads.

The use of PDO Threads does not cause heaviness in the lower face, as may happen when using fillers in that area. PDO threads give a long-term clinical effect of skin and tissues tightening and creating sharp facial contours.

Neck And Décolleté

Treadlifting of the neck with PDO threads is an effective and safe procedure.

In the décolleté area, the placement of PDO Threads at the level of the hypodermis in the direction from the center to the sides and up, and then across and along the V-shaped folds help to improve the skin texture and turgor.

Hands

For increasingly aging of hands skin is evident in the decrease in turgor, elasticity, thinning of the skin PDO Threads can be used for reinforcement of skin and tissues in the hands. Thin smooth linear threads have a bio stimulatory effect and significantly improve the condition of the skin. Hands PDO thread treatment is usually done with subdermal injection at an interval of 0.7 – 1 cm, from the wrist to the fingers. The result is observed in 1.5-2 months: the skin becomes smooth, elastic, tightened. The effect lasts up to 2 years.

Abdomen PDO Threads

For skin tightening and lipolysis

Best result for loose saggy skin without excessive fat tissues.

20-30 threads per treatment. At least 2 sessions are recommended – 2 months apart

You can add RF microneedling of the area 4 weeks before the PDO threads treatment for even better result

Create a mesh of threads, then take twist/screw threads and place them in the deeper line areas

Arms

For skin tightening and lift in upper arms areas.

Buttock Thread Lift

For skin and tissue tightening as well as diminishing the appearance of cellulite in the areas of buttocks and thighs.

Rehabilitation Period

  • Swelling and Hematomas. With PDO Threads insertion under the skin, small vessels and capillaries will inevitably be injured causing hematomas and bruising. In addition,  the wound created by threads insertion causes a slight inflammation – this is the body’s natural response to injury to the skin. Therefore, it is normal for edema to appear immediately after the procedure, but it should pass in 2-3 days. The risk of bruising – an internal hematoma – can be reduced. It is recommended to stop taking blood-thinning medications several days before the procedure. Please consult your physician before stopping any of prescribed or non-prescribed medications.  Immediately after the procedure apply ice pack on (15mins) and off in the bruised area. You can also apply arnica gel and traumacare cream.
  • Facial Asymmetry. Every face has some asymmetry which is normal. However, after the PDO Threads procedure the difference in facial structures becomes more noticeable due to edema and hematomas. The final result post PDO threads procedure is seen in 4-8 weeks.
  • Infection. PDO Threads are very safe and rarely cause any significant side effect. For some more invasive procedures such as midface lift , brow lift, jawline lift, it is recommended to take antibiotic prophylaxis for several days.
  • Pits, Folds. Rare but transient side effect. The smaller the fat layer in the area of the pit or “accordion”, the longer the deformation persists. On average, the side effects are absorbed and disappear within 1-2 months.
